EDWARD S. CONNOLLY was born in Omaha, Nebraska on December 13, 1934, the fourth child, and the third son, of Mr. and Mrs. Earl A. Connolly. His father was Professor of Surgery at Creighton Medical School and mother was a Registered Nurse and full time mother.
He attended Creighton Preparatory School, Stanford University, and Creighton Medical School, a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. After receiving M.D. degree in 1960, he had a straight surgical internship and a year of general surgery residency at the University of California in San Francisco. He entered Neurosurgery Residency at the University of California in San Francisco finishing training in 1968. He stayed on the Neurosurgery Faculty at the University of California until 1972, when he became the Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans. He continued in that position until 1996, when he reached the mandatory retirement age for Department Chairman of 60 and has stayed on a Senior Consultant at the Ochsner Clinic.
He is now Professor of Neurosurgery at LSU Medical School and Clinical Professor at Tulane University Medical School. He has been a member of the Board of Managements of the Ochsner Clinic and served as a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the Ochsner Medical Foundation, also served as President of the Brent House which is the hotel connected with the Ochsner Medical Institutions. He also was a founding member of the Combined Section of the AANS and CNS on Disorders of the Spine Peripheral Nerves and served both at Treasurer and Chairman of the section. He also serves as the Initial Chairman on the Task Force on the Spine. He has been a member of the American Board of Neurological Surgeons and has served as the President of the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons. He has also been a member of the Neurosurgical Society of America. He is presently serving as a Member of the Board of the largest Savings and Loan Institution in Louisiana.
His most prized accomplishment, however, was marrying Elise Lapeyre, who is the mother of their six children. The oldest son is a neurosurgeon on the Faculty at Columbia University. Second son has a specialty of both Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine. Third son works in the Security Investments. Fourth child and only daughter is a Speech Therapist. Fourth son is in the Communications Business and fifth son is a Resident in Otolaryngology.
