Training incoming neurosurgery residents across the country has created a need for a standardized curriculum for success in residency. The SNS has created these training courses to take place at 6 different sites and the standard curriculum is approved by the ACGME and also serves as models in training for all medical specialties. Residency programs must prove their residents achieve the stated Milestones as implemented by ACGME in July 2013. This course addresses Level 1 and 2 Milestones for Residents to ensure PGY 1 residents achieve these needed Milestones and beyond. Through didactic sessions in small groups and practical hand-on simulations, incoming residents are exposed to a variety of bedside procedures essential for their basic training.
Upon completion of these educational activities, learners should be able to demonstrate the following outcomes:
- Recognize attributes and behaviors needed to be a highly functioning neurosurgery resident
- Perform basic skills essential to the functioning of an intern, including craniotomy skills and bedside procedures
- Describe the elements of an effective consult, both emergent and non-emergent
