    Course Description:

    Now in its 6th year, this PGY2 course educates approximately 200 neurosurgery residents using a standardized curriculum at 3 regional locations. The SNS (Society of Neurological Surgeons) created a hands-on curriculum to address Level 1 and 2 of the ACGME milestones for residents as implemented in 2013.  Using specimens, simulators and didactic lectures, these courses teach the following competencies:

    • Communications
    • Patient Care
    • Basics of Cranial and Spinal Neurosurgery
    • Professionalism and Leadership
    • Technical Competencies
    • Systems-Based Practice Based Learning: Quality Improvement

    Learning Objectives:‚Äč

    Rising PGY-2 neurosurgery residents will gain an understanding of the roles of professionalism, appropriate communication and resilience skills through lecture, hands-on procedures and direct mentor interface.  Residents will be exposed to cranial and spine skills; endovascular techniques; surgical nuance and emergency procedures.  Residents will also apply Informed Consent and case study scenarios in small group discussion.
